Reece's 79 Leads Sandburg Men's Golf in Arrowhead Opener

Freshman Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) led the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team with a 9-over-par 79 as the Chargers kicked off their Arrowhead Conference schedule with a meet hosted by Sauk Valley on Friday at Timber Creek.
Sandburg finished third as a team, totaling a 328. Black Hawk took first with a 311, followed by Illinois Valley with a 323.
Reece’s round, which included a 36 on the front nine, was good for a tie for 11th on the day. Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) shot an 81, Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) an 83 and Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) an 85 to round out Sandburg’s score.
Andrew Welgat (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) had an 87 for the Chargers. Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA), competing as individuals, shot 82 and 85, respectively.
Highland’s Connor Hurd was medalist with a 2-over 72, winning by two strokes over Black Hawk’s Jacob Beck.
The Arrowhead season continues at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday as Highland hosts at Park Hills.
